First Print of 2013
Here is a new print that I’ve made for this year’s portfolio exchange at ACAD. The first of hopefully many prints to come this year! Stay tuned for info about my upcoming show in the Project Room at Stride Gallery in Calgary.

As I discussed in a previous post, I am participating in an interesting portfolio exchange where the artists involved are responding to each other’s prints. Here is my response to Lou Joseph’s piece. I’m looking forward to seeing his response to mine.

New Prints
I spent much of my summer working on these two new large prints. They are both silkscreen on a full sheet of BFK Rives Grey and are 44″ x 30″ each. The pain in the butt factor definitely increases with the size of paper and I do believe that my edition sizes will be about half of what I started with.

In the Studio
Since the end of semester, I’ve been plodding along steadily in the studio, making some new big silkscreens. I use a combination of different types of stencils including hand-drawn, digital and hand-cut out of amberlith (also known as rubylith). Here are some images of prints in progress:
DNSPE 2012 Update
I just received two copies of the DNSPE 2012 catalogue in the mail today along with the good news that my print “Returning, Pausing” received the Brackett-Krennerich & Associates Architects Purchase Award. This print will now be in the Arkansas State University Permanent Collection.
A quote from the Juror’s Statement (Roberta Waddell) in the catalogue: “While the screenprint particularly lends itself to simple, clearly defined, flat areas of color, Heather Huston takes advantage of the medium’s versatility in Returning, Pausing, a syncopated arrangement of subtly colored, patterned, and layered architectural planes that fluctuate from opaque to translucent.”
Always nice to hear how other people describe my work and to find a fellow fan of the Oxford comma.
